Common Ground Jiu-Jitsu was founded in 2010. A few like minded individual wanted to create a safe space where people of color, members of the LGBT community, and the working class, can learn martial arts and work out. It is almost impossible to find a gym where misogyny and homophobia do not thrive, while also being affordable. So we decided to create our own space so that marginalized and oppressed groups could come and build their personal physical strength while also building community strength. Unfortunately the group has been splintered. The spirit is alive and well, and there are plans to create an official gym sometime in the future. For now we all train separately. I run this blog by myself. I try to represent the things that Common Ground Jiu-Jitsu stands for.
